What inspires me this Mandela Day

July 18 marks a special day in our collective calendars – a day for us to come together and honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela and I wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on the significance of today, and more broadly, reflect on our role at Discovery as being a force for social good.

Today is a reminder to live Mandela’s values – and is a call-to-action that every individual as a reminder that they have the power to transform the world and to make an impact. Discovery is deeply patriotic and committed to helping create inclusive economic growth so that we can help create a healthier, wealthier South Africa. I am incredibly proud of the work we’re doing to achieve this through our shared-value business model.

Discovery Limited being the Official Wellness Partner of Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka brings this home for me. As Team Principal, Doug Ryder, aptly describes it, they embody camaraderie, innovation and a commitment to broader society through raising funds for Qhubeka Charity – getting people on bikes to better their lives. They are ubuntu in action. 

I am a proud South African with a strong belief in our country and its future, and believe that our role as Discovery is always to aligned to our investment in our values. I am unwavering in this objective and am grateful to have a platform that offers so many ways to articulate this.
