Three years ago I moved to Stockholm to work with, amongst other things, innovation.
It seemed like a cool word, but every day I felt clueless to what it meant. It was infuriating when everyone else at the company seemed to understand it. I felt stupid.
One day I met, Irfan, who is the Head of Innovation at large company. Yes he's awesome. He explained that the word innovation is derived from the Latin verb innovare, which means to renew something.
Basically, taking two things that exist and putting them together in a new way.
Because of that I felt excited and read everything about innovation I could get my hands on.
I used to think innovation was a fluffy concept, but now I understand that it’s the relentless and courageous effort to try something that has never been tried before.
In essence, innovation is daring to try something new.
Society innovates better education and improved health.
Businesses innovate useful products or services.
Individuals innovate experiences.
