What to Include in Your Book, Part 1

What to Include in Your Book, Part 1

You want your book to sell for a decade (or longer), and this week's series is designed to help you include pieces that will ensure that happens. (And next week, I'll be sure to share things to not include (or simply not do).

As always, if you have any questions, press reply and let me know!

Be sure to include an excellent reason to opt in to your email list in your front matter.

I talked about how important this was last week, and I left out one piece of information that you need: when someone uses the "Look Inside" feature on Amazon (or other retailers), they may just decide to pass on buying the book and opt in to your email list via your free gift. This is an excellent way for someone to understand, right out of the gate, you are an expert with valuable information they need!

What could the free gift be? I'm glad you asked! Here are a few suggestions:

  • A report, analysis, tool, or test. i.e., Ten Things to Know When Selling Your Home or a Debt Calculator
  • Book bonuses. In You MUST Write a Book, I include bonuses (such as who to hire and when, your book production schedule, etc.) everyone writing a book needs. What do your clients need and can you provide at least a bit of it to readers?
  • A Special Invitation: to join your Facebook Group or Slack Group. In Prosperity for Writers, I invite people to join The Prosperous Writer Mastermind on Facebook. This isn't necessarily the best choice these days, and it does work. In that group, I've pinned a free book for new members as well, because they don't always come through the book.
  • Getting your emails. :) Simple, straight-forward, and I've found people tend to like that.

Keep it to one simple page with one or two sentences plus the URL to join the list. Simple, easy, and it will make your readers happy and your email list grow.

See you Monday!
