What Impact Will YOU Have?

Carhartt has a partnership program with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Detroit.  Today we celebrated another successful year of that program by bringing our Little Brothers and Little Sisters to Carhartt.  They learned about Carhartt, about what goes into our design process, and they even got to design their own shirt.

My Little Sister was surprised to learn about how much detail goes into designing a Carhartt product – everything from the type of thread and fabric to the way it’s constructed is looked at and tested.  She was also surprised to see how many people are involved in the process and all of the support functions that are part of the organization to make it a successful business.  She reminded me that sometimes it’s important to look around and reflect on the big picture – it takes a lot of people focused on the same overall goal working with that common purpose to lead us on the route of success.  In that way, an organization is like a bee hive – we each have our role, we each have our tasks, we each have a different day-to-day focus, but together we’re working towards a common goal and everyone is needed.

My Little Sister was so grateful for the experience – just one little afternoon tripped changed her perspective of not only how apparel is made, but also the opportunities that exist in the world of business.  Sometimes we don’t realize how our simple actions can have an impact on others.  Sometimes we take for granted the knowledge we have and the experiences that have shaped us – we don’t think about how we can share that with others to help them grow and develop.
