What Impact will the new UK Plastic Packaging Tax have on Recycling?

As we all know, the tax aims to encourage the use of recycled rather than new plastic within plastic packaging. It is hoped that this will, in turn, stimulate increased levels of recycling and collection of plastic waste, thus diverting it away from Landfill.

Whether we are for it, or against it, the rate of tax will be £200/tonne on plastic packaging that contains less than 30% recycled plastic, and which is manufactured or imported into the UK (including packaging on finished goods which are imported) it's hoped this will incentivise the use of recycled material in the production of plastic packaging.

Many experts are saying that this is a poorly thought out knee jerk reaction to activists, but it certainly seems like a wave that's going to cause a Tsunami.

Mach-Tech have been supplying shredding equipment into the plastics industry for many years.

For the larger applications, we can use shredders as large as the Lindner Jupiter, well known as a beast of a primary shredder, the Jupiter does a fantastic job on plastics of all kinds due to its interchangeable modular screen that allow you to change fraction size very quickly.

Alternatively the Lindner Micromat is very successful in the shredding of all types of plastics in medium sized applications.

Also using quick change modular screen panels, and a hydraulic lifting plate that take all waste up and out of the way should you want to access the cutting chamber.

If you would like to know more about Lindner equipment in the plastics industry, you know what to do!
