What I'm Thankful For

What I'm Thankful For

On this Thanksgiving Day in the United States I have a lot of things I'm thankful for. Here are some in no particular order:

  • A beautiful wife who I've been married to for 37 years. She's my rock and she rocks
  • Two awesome, healthy sons
  • Good health
  • Friends. Lots and lots of them. Real friends.
  • The privilege of living in the United States - the country where most people on the planet would choose to emigrate to if they could. Immigration is the sincerest form of flattery
  • The freedom to exercise my religious beliefs
  • The freedom of speech
  • A fantastic business that is supported by amazing clients
  • The numerous opportunities to meet, represent and place great candidates. I'm only as good as the candidates I place
  • Every experience I've had in my lifetime - good and bad
  • Every individual who helped me accomplish my goals
  • Everyone who told me I'd never be successful - especially the career counselor at my high school who told me to be a bricklayer
  • Netflix
  • My parents for teaching me awesome values and how to be independent
  • My church and a loving God
  • Mr. Charles W. Kempley. My first boss in freight forwarding in 1969 and perhaps the man who had the most influence on my career
  • The United States for allowing me to become a citizen
  • Every boss I ever worked for. The great ones for teaching me how to be a good boss and the bad ones for teaching me why it's not important not to be a bosshole
  • My late brother, Gordon, who was an amazing mentor and example of what a good man should be
  • Good, wholesome and healthy food
  • Lagavulin 16-year old single malt Scotch
  • Every breath I take. Literally - not the song although that's okay, too
  • Sunshine on a Chicago Winters day
  • Chocolate - but not the sugar-free stuff
  • Sunrises and sunsets
  • Chicago Winters so that I can appreciate Chicago Summers even more
  • The Chicago skyline; Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue
  • Football. Real football that we call "soccer" in America
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Baldness becoming fashionable
  • Recommendations, referrals, "Likes" and "Shares"
  • Books
  • Hugs
  • Pink Floyd
  • A hot fire on a cold night
  • A snow blower that starts on the first pull
  • The first snowfall and the last one
  • Spotify
  • That I don't have to do business with AT&T
  • That I don't have Chicago Bears season tickets
  • A sense of humor

Wishing you all a very safe and Happy Thanksgiving
