What I'm most excited about at PANIC 2017
PANIC 2017 is fast approaching. This year it will take place at the beautiful Hilton Head Island Sonesta Resort. The perfect place to have a great conference our size.
On top of the ample time we have schedule for networking, great scientific and technical talks, poster sessions and a great line of exhibitors, here are the 5 things I'm most excited about at PANIC 2017:
- PANIC is a conference with a focus on Industrial NMR applications. This sounds easy enough to say but developing the content of an industrially-focused conference is not easy, it's going against the grain. Academics are all about sharing the latest and greatest research you've done. For an Industrial researcher to be able to share his or her research, it usually involves looking for a non-proprietary way of sharing your results. Nevertheless, I think we have a great program, with some unique sessions.
- In that respect, I have very much enjoyed the Forensics session in the past, and this year Torsten Schoenberger, from Bundeskriminalamt in Germany, has done a superb job at putting together his session. Check it out here: https://www.panicnmr.com/panic_content.aspx?id=160318
- Another session I'm looking forward to attend is the Data Processing and Analysis Tools on Thursday afternoon, chaired by Kristie Adams from Dupont. We gave ample time to this session because it's designed as a mixture between a technical session, a workshop and a discussion session. The idea is to showcase and discuss the many different tools that are available right now and that don't have in our opinion the proper exposure.
- Having worked my whole life in the filed of small molecule structure elucidation I know I'm biased when I say this, but I'm looking forward to the Structure Elucidation and Complex Mixtures session, chaired by Dave Cistola from the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center at El Paso, TX. Dave has developed a great mixture of data analysis, experiments and a broader view on metabolomics data quality.
- Last but not at all the least is our Coastal Grill Out Party on Tuesday night at the Oceanfront Beach Pavilion. We'll have great food, great music, and a great time with friends and colleagues. The best of all, it's complimentary for all Conference Attendees and you can even bring a guest!
These are just a handful of things to be excited about at PANIC 2017, check out the full program at https://www.panicnmr.com/panic_content.aspx?id=160318 and let me know in the comments what are you most excited about.

7 年I would add that the validation workshop that follows PANIC, and is free starting this year, adds immensely to the value of this conference.

7 年Gonzalo and David, well stated. There are many things to like about this conference. To add to your list, I value the practical applications in the presentations. I always leave this conference with tools I can use in my day to day work.

7 年Well stated, Gonzalo. While this conference is focused on industrial applications of NMR, it's also a place where academic and industry scientists can discuss their efforts to translate early discoveries into commercial opportunities. It's a welcome venue for scientists with an entrepreneurial bent.
