What ICS App Do You Use?
Smartphones are being used to extend communications networks in dozens of applications including public safety, construction, mining and so on. There are places where it's better to have a radio and places where it's better to have a smartphone. It's a fantastic new frontier adding flexibility and versatility to critical communications.
Part of this picture involves phone apps. There are lots of intercom system apps that allow you to turn your work group's smartphones into and intercom. A few of the new apps allow the new Aurora Industrial Bluetooth headsets to transmit over a radio right through the phone! The PTT is on the phone screen. The button on the Aurora ear cup remains the button to play/pause music or to answer/hang up calls. The following are a few of the new apps.
Motorola is offering the Wave-3000 and Wave-5000. This datasheet has pictures of the WAVE server and how it connects all the parts together: https://www.motorolasolutions.com/content/dam/msi/docs/software/voice-applications/wave/WAVE_3000_Data_Sheet.pdf
There is also an app called Zello with 50 million downloads and 400,000 ratings at 4.6 stars https://zellowork.com/lmr There are a surprising amount of people using this app in industrial applications and many need hearing protection. I've tried this with the Aurora headset and it works quite well.
Harris now has the BeOn app. We've tested our headset with this one as well where our dealer contacted dispatch via 2-way radio while wearing our headset. It was loud and clear. This service is available across the country.
Please let me know your comments and what apps you've used. If you haven't tried the Aurora headsets email to [email protected] to get on the list to try them.
