? What I Wrote This Year

In February 2020, my friend Veronika and I made a pact: We'd start pitching regularly and work on our budding careers as writers.

It was also deep quarantimes. I was doing client work and found tons of excuses why not to pitch. It was hard. It took a lot of time. It was new, and scary. Needless to say, a year later, I'd seen very little progress.

But things did change in 2021. I got more organized. I targeted publications I wanted to write for. I spent (necessary!) time on good pitches. I leaned hard into writing about one of the things I love most: ?

It's easy to beat ourselves up about all the things we don't do. I still have tons of ambitions. I still need to get organized. There are still tons of places I want to pitch, but haven't.

I also want to celebrate what I have done, and the enormous steps I've taken.

Here's where my words have been published this year:

Standart Magazine (print-only)

  • Café Lingering in Times of Covid . How should we relate to our neighborhood café post-pandemic? This feature in Issue 27 highlighted cafés and patrons from all continents and shares a guide to respectful lingering over coffee.
  • Would You Like Some Menstrual Equity with Your Coffee? New in Issue 29! I explore the cafés pushing the menstrual equity movement forward by offering free period products in their restrooms.
  • Interview with Morgan Eckroth. I spoke with the TikTok star and "Internet's Friendliest Barista," who took second place in the 2022 World Barista Championship, about content, competition, and camaraderie for Issue 29.

Sprudge Magazine

  • Coffee Guide to Odense, Denmark . From renovated train station cafés to cozy harborsides, I drank a lot of coffee in Denmark's third largest city to help bring you do the same in the birthplace of H.C. Andersen.
  • forthcoming coffee guides to Charlotte, NC, USA ; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Brno, Czech Republic

Fresh Cup Magazine

  • Who Is Canned Cold Brew For? What is responsible for the meteoric rise of ready-to-drink (RTD) coffee drinks, how do specialty brands create their RTDs, and why should we be paying attention?
