What if I told you... Public Speaking isn't that hard?!

Since I started focusing on public speaking?advising and coaching and speech writing over 10 years ago.... I can't?control the analytical mindset that takes over my brain whenever I watch or listen to a speech or a talk or a presentation or even a media interview.?I wonder about the good moments! Was that organic or intentional? Did it just happen or was it planned? Was the speaker aware of the results and impact -in the coming few minutes- of what was just said or expressed ?
And quite often I think to myself...
"Boy... that?could have been better if only s/he does that,?or say that,?or say the same thing... just differently."
It's been fun watching the performance of specific people change. Some improvements I can see is more of a natural evolution of the character and skills.?And with some, I could put money on the table that they are working with someone on their public speaking skills. Sometimes because I could spot the perfect improved moments, and sometimes I could tell they are working with an old school cliche team.
The keys in my experience working with top global leaders and entrepreneurs from all walks of life, all over the world... There is no textbook.
No manual... No one size that fits all... The process must be customized...
Customized to who you are. What you wish to project, and how you want people to feel about you and your message. Yes... feel.
I have advised different clients with totally different contradicting approaches.?Wrote speeches with the same purpose for different speakers,??that are so different in the nature of stories and jokes.
The recipe about what's right is always... "It depends!"
The elements that contribute to the right recipe for you are endless. Your gender,?your looks,?your voice,?your physical and psychological status,?your message,?the context,?the audience and their physical and psychological status, time of the day,?which day in the week,?trending stories and jokes,?how public or private is the situation,?level of improvisation needed. And God... on or off camera.
The more elements and details you pay attention to... the stronger your impact is, and the smoother your message flow.
And above all... your inner narrative about what you can and can't do. About what you stand to lose or gain. And how much fun are you having.

And most importantly... what are you trying to achieve?
One of the main reasons I have seen for a speech go south, is for the speaker to deal with it as a burden to get off his/ her shoulder . "Let's get this out of the way". One of the main reasons it goes well no matter how a speaker messes up, is when he/ she is looking forward to have fun and enjoy it .
Effective communication and Public speaking is a critical essential skills...tool. Not a luxury.
Period.
It is such a loss to miss the right moment and opportunity to deliver your message and tell your story...perfectly.?
And it is possible to do that.?And the results are beyond amazing. I promise.
Don't get the moment out of the way. Embrace it. Use it. Enjoy it.
Customize it... your way.? Be you!
Only you
Flow.
It really isn't that hard.
(Inspired by a good decent speech I watched today during a once in a life time moment for the speaker.?It was good... nothing wrong.?But boy... it could have been better! Easily)
