What I Tell My Daughter's

What I Tell My Daughter's

Girl Power. I’m all for it. Bugger this ego driven, boys club bullshit. Ladies play better footy, draw a neater charge plan, and use their brains instead of brawn. They Smell better and they pay attention when your teaching.

Look in general we’ve come a long way in a short time, I guess. In this country at least. But it wasn’t that long ago that lady jobs were far and few. And most definitely frowned upon in mining. On a recent discussion last week with a friend that’s seen it all, from America to Singapore. he talked about how much change he had seen in African nations, where females were not even permitted on site, now the chicks are basically running the show.

Personally, I get my back up when I hear sexist Shit-Talk, bad mouthing of girls or winging. I’ve got two daughters of my own, what kind of person would I be if I didn’t stick up for them? I tell them ‘’you can grow up to be whatever they want’’, if that’s a miner, then so be it.

?

I’ve had some great mentors over my short time, some have even taken me under their wing, I remember the first time I seen Holly Allday give a public presentation, confident, smart, and witty as hell. Holly had an energy that was unguided by persuasion, Holly new what she wanted to say and what changes to make. Her confidence was addictive. I’ve considered Holly a mentor for a few years now, often calling upon her leadership skills for advice

The underground environment is a savage place, full of mud, sweat and Dust. No air and holy, it can get hot. Man’s game, right? Wrong. I’ve seen just as many dudes struggle to lift a MD Bolt or hardly drag a bull hose through mud. My latest Nipper put most dudes to shame. Quick thinking, anticipated the next move, every setup is neat and she can actually count, even recorded start/finish times and took tally of how many bolts (including the ones I bent!) and ?mesh i installed, so I could record on my timesheet.

I even worked with one tuff lass who was still kicking around at 28 weeks pregnant, with headings as hot as 32 wet and she still charged the lifters quicker than the guy next to her.

Another that springs mind, loader op/ charge hand. I’ve never heard her complain once, jumps from machine to machine, doesn’t bother her.?if that’s what the shift needs her doing, she’ll happily do it and I’ll reward that ethic. I’ve got no problem letting her scale a heading. Kids these days feel entitled “I’m beyond Nipper” or “I’ve done my time” I never heard her whine once.

So here’s a shout-out to all the lady miners, the Mumma’s still getting the job done and having a laugh with the boys.

Great post and true to boot!

Very nice photo choice, I’m now famous ?? But it’s people like you that have made these changes! I wouldn’t be where I am or know as much as I do without you and a lot of other males that have stood by my side, pushed me to my limits, showed me the ropes, and believed in me! And in saying all that, apart from one occasion I’ve never been treated any different just because I am a female, and my god it was my ultimate challenge to work my arse off and prove to that one person that I could do what a man could do! You are the real MVP Poz!
