What I Read This Week...

Is anyone else waving the white flag, calling a truce on the week? While I wish I had a reprieve this weekend, this working mom will be up at 5 a.m. prepping for softball tomorrow and Sunday. If your kid plays travel sports, you feel my excitement, and pain and understand my caffeine addiction. I digress.

?Here’s what I’m reading this week…

?Climate Week was a driver of headlines this week and the largest annual climate event of its kind kicked off Sunday in New York, bringing together hundreds of brands and hosting over 600 events and activities across the city. Global health leaders pen open letter to ‘those with the power to prevent lives being lost to the climate crisis.’ Some Climate Week NYC attendees call for more of the corporate world to shoulder the environmental costs.

?The UN hosted a Summit for the Future earlier this week. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres thanked the 193-member world body for approving the “Pact for the Future” to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Fortune released its Change the World list.

?AI continues to dominate headlines across verticals. OpenAI led the pack this week with several interesting headlines, including the news that their chief technology officer Mira Murati is leaving.

?This week we saw a few more political twists and turns, this time via New York vs. Washington D.C. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been charged with corruption. Florida and the surrounding areas are struggling with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

?A few brands received a facelift this week, Fast Company tracked and covered a few new brand redesigns. With the changes to Instagram privacy and security features specific to protecting teens, here’s a guide to Instagram’s new teen accounts.

?In case you needed a little extra anxiety this week, there are only 13 Fridays left until Christmas, but Wal-Mart is ready. The retailer is kicking off holiday sales on October 8th. Amazon is gearing up for Fall Prime Day(s). In morning show news, Hoda announced she’ll be departing the Today Show. Dame Maggie Smith passed away this week, while she was known for many roles, I’ll remember has Wendy in Peter Pan.

What Else I’m Reading

?And if you’ve read this far, appreciate you. Here’s a bonus … What I’m Watching!

  • Grotesquerie – I’m into it. Only the first episode in but I’m here for it
  • I’ll also be waiting patiently for the next Monster series by Ryan Murphy. Season three of Netflix's "Monster" series will be about serial killer Ed Gein starring Charlie Hunnam.
