What I Love About Reading!

Helping people find fulfilling career(HR professional) II Talent Acquisition
It all started with a good friend. I mean...... a human friend and not a fictional one :P.
While pursuing CA, I was going through a sad and depressing phase. And there was my friend who introduced me to the world of books. At the same time I was pursuing my graduation, I started reading in my 2nd year and I have been reading non-stop since then. Reading has become crucial part of my life since last 4 years. I started my reading journey with romance genre followed by fantasy, mythological, self-help and inspirational books. Later I experimented with mystery, thriller and suspense books, which became one of my favorite genre. In all these years I have realized the power of reading and books. And the more I read, more things I discover about myself, reading and books. Today, I will be sharing some of my experiences with you.
- Loosen Up (Relaxed Mind / Calmed Nerves): As usual, after long tiring day while I was going home in the metro, I had this really bad head ache and was trying to focus on my book (The Secret by Rhonda Byrne). There were two friends standing right next to me and were in a jolly mood. They were laughing loudly and mocking our proud friend (who grabbed a seat) because he was asked to vacate his seat by an elderly person (Trust me, it's hard to get a seat in Delhi metro). And apparently there was this another friend who automatically vacated his seat after seeing the entire scenario. Initially I was little worried to see, how easily we give in to social bullying but then I looked at them and their smiling faces, and all I could say was, "Sid, you need to loosen up". I looked at my book and realized that I have been unconsciously practicing law of attraction. Reading does helps to unwind and enjoy small gifts of life.
- Focusing on solution (Deciphering life and problems): "Who could be the murderer?", Wait! Hows that even possible, he was at the hospital when murder happened.", "Ohh Lord, It was trap. How will she get out of it.". While reading mystery, thriller and suspense books, I have been constantly thinking of ways to solve the story. Reading these books over the year have actually trained my mind to look for solution in every scenario. Whenever I am in a situation which feels like a trap, I automatically shift my focus on finding a solution. And people say reading mystery is a waste of time.
- Dealing with life (Rather living with life): Love, loss, regret and repent are some of the must have emotions of our day to day life. Reading books which are high on emotions helps in better understanding and identification of right emotions. For Example, people often mistake sadness as depression. But someone who has experienced both the emotions by being in the shoes of others can really know the true difference between the two. And people believe, time spent on reading romance and fantasy is a waste.
- Understanding others (People Management): Rusty, a character who is bound to obey the rules of the society. Chemale, was forced to take a decision which might be looked down upon by her mother. Roshan, fatty kid with love for everyone yet despised by everyone. Keth, a handsome hunk with a desire to become famous one day. Reading about theses diverse characters and their over the top thinking made me realize the different needs of people. Being into HR fraternity, understanding human needs comes handy while dealing with people.
- Sharp Memory (Content Retention): Reading these long books and story line with multiple characters helps me to keep track of the entire plot. Constantly keeping the entire story in mind keeps me on my toes. It nourishes the mind and keeps my mind active. Reading helps my mind to go beyond my existing mental boundaries.
Hence, it's proved reading is good. So start reading.....
