What I Like About Working on a Small Team
I thoroughly enjoy working on a small team. I am constantly try to compare my experiences working for Quicken Loans (a 10,000 person company) and my current employer (far fewer). While neither experience is inherently good or bad, there certainly are upsides to both.
In a small environment, I get the opportunity to see and provide value in a multitude of different areas and functions. This has allowed me to grow my skill set and general understanding of how companies operate in ways that never would have occurred in a large organization. When you have the opportunity to inflict change, you have to be proactive, not reactive in order to do well within the company. Always being ready with suggestions and ideas that you think should be implemented. There are no teams for internal projects, so it falls on you to make it happen. In terms of both idea generation and management.
Though it can be difficult, I found this to be a blessing in disguise. Putting your own feet to the fire and being the only one responsible for making change can really bring out the best in you. It can be challenging to juggle all of your responsibilities while trying to add another. But when you succeed, you know that you put that in place, or made that change, or perfected that method.
What do you enjoy about the size of your company?
