What I Learnt This Week: Our Own Power; Resilience; Self-Publishing; Goop and Fasting

Happy Friday!

Here are 5 things I learnt this week:

1. We are all far more powerful than we know. This seems to be the main message across everything I’ve consumed this week. In Netflix’s Goop Lab series (more on this below), psychic medium Laura Lynne Jackson shows us how we can all affect each other’s energy. (I’ve talked about Jackson before; her books changed my life). In Jill Blakeway’s book Energy Medicine, the conclusion is that the healers she features don’t have some special, mystical gift— we can all be taught how to tune into our healing powers. And this video by Abraham Hicks reminds us that the only thing blocking our ability to manifest is our belief in our own powers.

2. How to become more resilient. I don’t know about you, but I need all the help I can get here. I loved this blog post from Gabby Bernstein on 7 ways to be more resilient. Some of her suggestions are spiritual, some are practical. On the more practical side, I liked her suggestions to change your story (you are not a victim, you are a brave warrior!) and to focus on the solution rather than the problem. The post is here.

3. I’ve been learning more and more about the business of self-publishing and it’s a fascinating industry. You can read more about why I’ve gone down this route rather than the traditional route in my blog post, ‘5 reasons why I decided to publish my book independently.’

4. I got Gooped. To be fair, I’ve been drinking the Goop-aid for a good while now but I binge-watched the 6-part Netflix series, Goop Lab last weekend and LOVED it. Aside from being able to stare at GP, which is always a bonus, I found it profoundly moving and very informative. I was glad to see so many usually-critical journalists gushing over the infamous vagina episode; it’s one that every woman—and man—should watch!

5. I learnt a lot more about the nuances and health benefits of fasting from Valter Longo, PhD, author of The Longevity Diet on - wait for it - the Goop podcast. It’s worth a listen. For most of us on a daily basis, just trying to limit our eating to a 12-hour window is a great start. It’s also interesting to hear about the effects fasting has in conjunction with chemo and other treatments for serious illness. Listen to it here.

Have a lovely weekend
