WHAT I LEARNT FROM MY DAUGHTER

WHAT I LEARNT FROM MY DAUGHTER

I’d like to share something profound I learnt from my daughter during an interesting conversation we had a little while back.

Her view was that in the same way that going to a mechanic garage doesn’t make someone a mechanic, likewise, going to church also doesn’t make one a Christian, as they would actually need to have a personal relationship with God to be considered as a Christian.

This analogy really got me thinking and resonated very strongly with me as I began to put it into a coaching context.

I pondered on how individuals who have passed through some sort of training programme would come out and call themselves a coach, without having been properly assessed by a reputable organization that can attest to their level of competence as a professional coach.

With so much market confusion and dilution about coaching, one really cannot afford to fall into the wrong hands.

This is because the damage that can be done to an expensive car by going to an unqualified mechanic may be less critical when compared to revealing confidential personal details to one who is not competent to handle such sensitive issues.

My recommendation is that when looking for a professional coach, it is best to ensure that the individual has been certified and assessed by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), which is the largest and leading global body of professional coaches with the gold standard of coaching to which its members are held accountable.

To shed more light on this, I’ll be sharing about the benefits of engaging a professional coach in upcoming posts, so please stay tuned!
