What I Learnt From Disney

What I learnt from Disney

After a truly magical few days taking our son to Disney for the first time I had the "pleasure" of a 4:30 start on my first day back and a 3 hour drive to Milton Keynes, plenty of time to reflect on What I had learnt from Disney.

  • Smile even if you don't mean it! - There's is no way those poor dancers on their 5th rendition of Frozen that day in the freezing cold feel that happy but boy do they smile and make you believe!
  • Great customer service can overcome most things - I first visited Disney Land in 1992 when I was 12 and honestly nothing much has changed and in reality through the eyes of an adult it's all a bit tired now, but you can forgive it all of that by the way each and every person there makes you feel like a million dollars!
  •  Believe! - My son is a fairly typical 11 year old that I have to prise away from the Xbox most days however, the smile on his face as he melted watching grown people dressed as Minnie and Mickey Mouse was wonderful
  • People! - As I mentioned the honest truth is the actual place is not that great the people are something else and they bring the magic!

I spend most of my working day trying to recreate the same sort of magic and give my people the best possible environment to be the best that they possibly can! If I can harness just a small part of what I saw at Disney I truly believe we will continue to be just that "The best that we can be"

There is a great book on this sort of stuff called Disney U

Some great experiences (glad that you had a good time) and some additional thoughts from me - - they have some core values and never move away from them - they really really know their customers and how to delight them - they work hard on 'delighting', not simply satisfying - they really understand what they offer - they work really hard to maintaining their standards - everything works, everyone smiles, everything is open, everyone tries to help etc etc. When I was last there, I went as the adult taking my children thinking that I shall just let them enjoy it but I won't really participate (apart from the rides). Yet quite quickly, you find yourself waving at the Disney princess procession - and then you know, Disney know their stuff.
