What I learnt from a cheese toastie

What I learnt from a cheese toastie

I couldn’t have been much older than 13.

The age my eldest turned this week.

I went on a play date at Kelly Harrison’s house .

I recall her mum so well.

Firstly, she’d given me directions to the house on the phone . I said yes lots of times and then she uttered the words?...

“Ok so , repeat that back to me “ Yikes ??

Lesson 1 : Always check how your message has been received . Just because someone appears like they are listening doesn’t mean they are or if indeed they have interpreted your words as you meant.

Secondly , she prepared cheese toasties for lunch . She then added salt to them .

This astounded me as much as the time my Auntie Jenny , buttered both sides of the bread in a sandwich one Christmas.

Lesson 2: Every small action you take or conversation you have can permanently make an impact on someone’s life.

My examples aren’t profound but are shared more to hit home to you how something so trivial as putting salt on a sandwich can create a memory that is recalled some 30 years later.

It’s also to share that change comes from a series of small actions that lead to big change .

A community is built one small conversation at a time .

One small share of vulnerability is a signal that it’s ok to open up a little to another .

Moment to moment we are vehicles for change .

Vehicles for a better world . A more connected human race .

Be that vehicle.

Have that conversation.

Give that compliment.

Go on , put a little salt on a that cheese toastie !

Until next time?

Claire?

??

p.s if you need to have more connected authentic conversations, Like Hearted Leaders could be for you. Happy to chat to you about it email me at [email protected]

(You don't need to like cheese toasties either ?? )

I nice story, Claire. Small occurrences (in the total scheme of things) can have a lasting effect on a person′s learning and future behaviour, Claire
