What I Learned About Writing and Publishing a Book
I thought that I could only write a book if it was going to sell lots of copies.
I thought that I needed to have a fully-formed self-written book before shopping it to publishers.
I thought that books were only written by people who enjoyed the craft of writing (and the long hours it takes!).
Here's what I learned:
- There's a spectrum to how books are written and published, from do-it-yourself to spending a ton of money for a company to do it all for you.
- There's a lot of in-between and price point to getting your book written and published.
- Ghostwriting means someone is helping you structure and write your book. But it's your thoughts and your voice. So it's YOUR book.
- Selling copies of the book isn't the sole ROI of writing a book. Of course, there's impact on your audience, but a book's ROI can be around what other opportunities it creates for you (more clients, more public speaking engagements, etc).
I now understand the power of the book as a marketing device (or as my partners coached me, an extended business card).
If this resonates with you on how you want your impact-driven book to be done , let's chat!
