What I Learned About Social Media Marketing From Watching Carlos Gil's Keynote at The Digital Summit
Carlos Gil is on another level.
John Marty and I ran into the marketing guru himself while he was in town to deliver a keynote for the Digital Summit.
Carlos's keynote on social media marketing was ??fire!
Key takeaways for me:
1. Community Is King.
Brands must engage with their customers across all channels and be deliberate about connecting with them.
Not engaging with your community is a missed opportunity.
The present and future of successful brands will be predicated on how often they engage with the communities that matter to them.
2. Focus Your Social Strategy
You can't be great on every social channel. Yes, we are living in an Omni-Channel world, but prioritization is still key.
Determine 1-2 channels that drive the most engagement for your business and hone in on them.
3. Forget Influencer Marketing. Embrace Brand Ambassadors.
Businesses should be focused on working with influencers who align with their space/industry, strategy, and purpose.
It's easy to find short-term influencers for one-off projects.
It's harder to find keystone brand ambassadors who have authentic engagement and have built genuine communities that align with your brand ethos.
Brands shouldn't settle for easy.
Do the hard work and BE GREAT.
