What I Learned about Resumes (after Hiring 10,000 people)

Dear friends,

Throughout my career as an HR person, I have read tens of thousands of resumes.

I read all those resumes because my teammates and I hired close to 10,000 people - and when I left the corporate world to start coaching and consulting, I read even more resumes.

When I read resumes, I always feel sorry for candidates because almost resume looks alike.

It's almost impossible to tell one person from another.

I always wondered, "Why are we taught to write our resumes in such a way that our talents and spark are hidden?"

After reading this many resumes, I can tell you exactly why your resume doesn't get the results you'd like it to.

It’s because your resume is a copy, of a copy, of a copy, of a copy.

It uses jargon that doesn’t really say anything about you and why you are a fit for the job.

It looks like everyone else's resume. It simply doesn’t stand out enough.

And like I said, that's not your fault - since virtually every article and resume book tells you to write your resume in the boring, anonymous corporate resume style.

But as a result, you could be applying to dozens or hundreds of jobs and never hear back from anyone.

Luckily, as an HR person I also know exactly what you need to do to get the attention of recruiters and hiring mangers.

And I’ll be teaching this approach, which I call the Human-Voiced Resume?, in the form of a Resume Challenge that anyone can join for free in October.

If you want to make your resume stand out and get more interviews and better job offers, join my Perfect Resume challenge.

Like I said, the resume challenge is free, and I’m doing it because it’s October.

At Human Workplace, the month of October is dedicated to resumes.

Here’s how it works:

Once you’re signed up for the free challenge, you’ll get short videos and little assignments from me to improve your resume.

The goal is to go from having an average resume to a great one.

A copy of a copy of a copy = diluted nothingness. Good for you to create a Human-voiced resume course inspiring originality and speaking one's accomplishments in a way that stands out!

Absolutely love this perspective, Liz! It’s refreshing to see someone addressing the cookie-cutter nature of resumes. Your Human-Voiced Resume approach sounds like a game-changer for job seekers looking to showcase their unique talents and experiences.
