What I Learned Living in Damascus for 10 Years
Lesson No.9
You've done a great job, congrats!
Lesson 9: Achievement will always find a way to make you shine.
LinkedIn is a platform where everyone posts about their career ladder and progress. Every one of your connections has their life figured out. One is their team lead, another is celebrating 10 years at their dream company and many more posting pictures of graduations and awards.
What people miss in all of this is that it is not about showing people what you've earned through photos and videos. It's about embracing the progress that the achievement offers.
Let's give some examples:
1- Someone posted that they had finished a course in their field. People liked that and celebrated with tons of comments and then it's over. Is it over? For people, yes. For the person with the course? Not. This person can now benefit from this course in his/her job. This person can teach others from what he/she learned. This is how achievement shows.
2- Someone posted that they sold their company for millions of dollars. People are secretly envying that, but still liking and commenting. Is that the show that we worked for? No. What the person worked for is a company that will offer a life of financial security. What the person worked for is years of experience that he/she will pass on to other generations. This is how achievement shows.
The list of examples is endless. I'm sure you now get the point. This isn't to say that someone shouldn't post about their achievements. This is to encourage people to feel good about themselves and what they achieved regardless of whether people's likes or comments celebrate it.
