What I learned hiking the Camino.

What I Learned from Walking the Camino de Santiago.

For as long as I can remember, walking the Camino de Santiago(way of St. James) has been a dream of mine. Last month, I finally turned that dream into reality by embarking on a month-long pilgrimage from St Jean Pied de Port (France) to Santiago de Compostela( 800km/500 miles).?The journey was a transformative experience that taught me invaluable lessons about discipline, relationships, independence, and teamwork—lessons that I now carry into my professional life as a recruiter.

The Camino is not just a physical challenge; it’s a testament to discipline. Every day brought new physical and mental hurdles, from steep climbs to long distances. This discipline reminded me of the importance of consistency and dedication in my work. Just as each step on the Camino brought me closer to my destination, each effort in my professional life brings me closer to achieving my goals.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the Camino was the relationships I built along the way. I met people from all corners of the globe, each with their own unique stories and perspectives. Sharing this journey with them highlighted the importance of building genuine connections. As a recruiter, these relationships are crucial. Understanding the needs and aspirations of both clients and candidates helps create meaningful matches that benefit everyone involved.

Walking the Camino also taught me the balance between independence and teamwork. There were times when I walked alone, reflecting on my thoughts and growing more self-reliant. These moments of solitude enhanced my problem-solving skills and reinforced the importance of self-discipline. Yet, the camaraderie with fellow pilgrims was equally valuable. We supported each other through difficult times, celebrated our milestones together, and learned the true power of teamwork. This blend of independence and teamwork is essential in my role as a recruiter, where both self-motivation and collaboration with colleagues lead to success.

This journey was a lifelong dream come true, and the lessons I learned will stay with me forever. The discipline, relationships, independence, and teamwork that I experienced on the Camino have made me a better professional. I am excited to bring these insights into my work, helping others find their own paths and achieve their dreams.?
