What I learned Will Help Your Social ROI
Warren Whitlock
Director/Advisor in the business of future tech. Focused on exponential growth in blockchain, media, and e-commerce.
We had a great year with social media and influencer campaigns.
In the last few months of 2016, I doubled my reach with 3-10 times as much engagement on posts, events, and tweets.
I took notes so I could share my insights with you.
The Road to Engagement ROI
Back in 2004, I joined Linkedin. Frankly, I thought it was a waste of time. Fun to see how many people I knew but every time I was on the site, I felt guilty because I thought the game of networking couldn't possibly make money.
I was wrong.
In the Summer of 2007, I had some time between projects and joined Twitter, Facebook, and other sites since forgotten. I met people in tech, PR and marketing, including many of the social media giants of today. And I soon found out that promoting my content on social with the media methods I'd used for decades didn't work the same.
But when I started having conversations with great people, ignoring the ROI and forming relationships rather than pushing my message. Occasionally, a post or tweet took off and I took notes and learned that there was ROI here.
In early 2008, I noticed that there were few books on social media and none about Twitter, so Deb Cole and decided to create a book where we shared what worked. We invited everyone we knew to contribute tweets, ideas, interviews.
I launched my radio show and we used every other social tech we could find for outreach and conversations.
Thousands of people participated.
By the time the book was released, I had a few thousand followers, the book became a best seller. I was seeing a couple thousand live and archive listens of my weekly radio show.
All Business is Becoming Social
Over the next few years, I was interviewed on podcasts, radio, and video hundreds of times asked to speak at dozens of conferences and often heard from a new customer that they'd been following me for years. Social Media wasn't my primary business but when I paid attention to my network, my business grew.
I learned that much of the experience we have in deciding to search, shop, and purchase happens well before the first click can be measured. I wrote another book called Profitable Social Media: Business Results Without Playing Games in 2011. I'd answered the questions of business friends who had avoided social media as a waste of time, then went on to other projects. Always on social like most people. Connecting and building relationships
Then I Really Started Tracking
The tools for tracking keep getting better. So I've been studying what works and putting more time into real engagement.
What I've learned is how easy it is to get much more engagement. Adding video, images, and writing can help. Tools and platforms can make a difference, but nothing compares to getting better at listening and paying attention to the people who follow you.
Today, I tweet more, post more, and GIVE more. People like it and tell their friends and the growth in audience is compounded.
Let Me Show You How
On February 7th, I'll share some more details and examples that are working better now than ever before.

The webinar is free. I have a sponsor, Promo Republic, who will show you some more ideas which allows me to share without selling you services. Of course, we're in business and expect some new customer relationships. However, we've learned that all that business stuff takes care of itself if you focus on giving great value to people.
To me, that's what it's all about. Connect with people. Help where you can, and give more than you get. Let me show you how 2017 can be more fun, more rewarding and more profitable than ever.
