What I Learned from Walking on Fire

What I Learned from Walking on Fire

So yesterday, I walked on fire not once but three times. Why did I decide to walk on fire, may you ask?

Well, basically to fully understand the power of the mind...to understand the power of my mind and.. how my mind is the best tool to rely on in times of fear and doubt.

Fire walking is both a symbolic act as well as a proof of power.  One – a shaman – is walking the path of fire in a literal-figurative sense and to prove that my powers can, in fact, affect the laws of Nature (Laws of the Universe) by negating two important Laws – ‘gravity’ and ‘burning’.

Oprah Winfrey described her "Unleash the Power Within" Fire-Walking experience with Tony Robbins as "one of the most incredible experiences" of her life. I have to say, I feel the same about my experience walking through the Fearless Flame.

I am aware that making change in my life will only come through committed participation: to think and act positively and proactively. Walking through the fire was my stamp to signify my commitment to myself; a metaphor to signify a breakthrough and hands-on approach to letting go of fear.

So what did I learn (gain) from the Fire-Walking experience:

  • I build fires. Other people build fires.
  • I am more powerful than the fires that are built.
  •  If I really want to, I can jump over them, walk around them, or even walk through them.
  • My beliefs and attitude will determine my success.
  • I am resourceful.
  • Limiting my beliefs does not give me the energy I need to face challenges and overcome obstacles. The opposite does.

And the most important one: What I think is not necessarily what is!

When I decided to do the Fire-Walk – walking on 800 degrees Fahrenheit hot coals – I made the decision to do it and very glad I did. I did not burn, I did not go up in flames, I did not feel unbearable pain, and my feet are still in tip-top shape to Zumba this week.

I am tired of doubt!  It has over-stayed its welcome. I walked through coals marking a time of significant change and transformation.  In the future, when I am faced with fear, I will turn my fear into energy and make it work in my life to help me grow and advance.

It is not necessary to walk on fire for change to occur. When you feel fear, simply put some mind excises to work:

Just because your ego likes to be right, does not mean it should be, fear can signal flight or fight, what you think is not necessarily what is, and just because you inherited a belief does not mean you can't change it".

The fire taught me to honor the flames within myself and walk through all the fire-walks in my life. Because the real fire-walk, the real challenge, the real change, is to live my live fully, with purpose and joy and to practice every day with intention supported by an open mind and positive and powerful affirmations.

Aho!

(in Lakota/Dakota means, ‘I understand’, or ‘I acknowledge you’)
