In my early copywriting career, one of my most profound realizations was the potency of storytelling. This may now be common knowledge as I began learning why I was not able to effectively convert on long-form copy, but the human mind loves a memorable story.


I’ll walk you through an instance where I harnessed the art of storytelling to craft a compelling brand narrative for a client. A previous client of mine needed a fresh way to improve engagement with their audience. They were an e-commerce site, and this was during the first quarter of 2020.


I noticed through Google Analytics that they were losing traffic (yes, I did factor in the pandemic's effects.) As I performed a site audit, I noticed something that was intriguing.


They didn't have a sustainable blog.


I advised this client to produce a plan that created a content marketing campaign that focused solely on connecting with their audience to show unity through these economically impacting times.


The result? A significant increase in customer engagement proves that the ability to tell a captivating story is a persuasive force in marketing.

I'm sure that you will agree with me that the world of marketing isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. I’ll recount a time when I encountered resistance to a fresh marketing campaign idea.


The marketing director was completely against the idea of adjustments to a customer journey using their email marketing system which I knew would increase profits.


This was a pivotal moment when I needed to dig deep, overcome these obstacles, and ultimately create a campaign that was both innovative and successful. This change in workflow had never previously been performed at this company, and I experienced a lot of friction. After all that was said, done, and sent, I'm glad that things worked out for the better.

In a consistently growing digital world, fostering authentic connections with your audience is vital. Earlier in this article I explained to you the impact of storytelling with the content marketing example.


Sharing that journey proved that building authentic connections with your audience creates brand loyalty and trust. With the performance of that task, I noticed that you can either do two things: not be personal and unknowingly create a space between you and your audience, or be personal and create an authentic relationship.


Imagine this, you are going to a popular online website for years (company A) and you receive their newsletter because it saves you money. Other than that, there is no reason for you to open it, be loyal to that brand, or see any benefits to continually purchasing products from them.


Now imagine, you have (company B) jumping into the picture with personalized products, recommendations, and even newsletters with your name being addressed in the beginning.


Which one would you pick if both saved you money?


With any relationship, effort from the other party is sure to win people over and keep them. Through personal, business, colleagues, etc. we will see that those who are willing to go the extra distance make a better impact on connection.

Lastly, I’ll discuss the impact of incorporating data-driven insights into my marketing strategies. I’ll highlight a particular case where data analysis led to a transformative marketing decision, proving the power of information and analytics in making persuasive choices.


Marketing isn’t just about intuition, it’s about data and insights. Knowing your audience is key to making a campaign profitable and LinkedIn audience insights gives you that information.


In a previous campaign, I noticed that people favored a specific color of a button on a website. I ran the A/B testing to see which one would be the favorite of the two. The color red outperformed any other color by 72% which shocked the team and me.


You would think that red is associated with a stop sign, a stop light, and universal for being cautious that it wouldn't outperform the other colors. This proved to me that data and analytics will overshadow any opinion.
