WHAT I LEARNED FROM MR ATANU DASGUPTA AT POWER GRID – PART 5

Continuing on my experiences with Mr. Dasgupta, in today’s blog, I will cover a related topic about being a good leader. Let us take a look at the next lesson.
Give Credit Where Credit is Due
All of us love when we get a praise. In fact, the recognition of the effort itself is a big reward. But leaders are in a position to take credit for the work of their teams.
In general, only parents will take pride when they give the credit of the work done to their kids. Good bosses are like those caring and concerned parents, who take pride when their team does well. They are always happy to let the whole world know that a specific piece of work, which helped the company (or group or department) be successful, is the brainchild of one of the team members. Sharing the limelight or even passing the limelight onto the “protege”.
In my career in Power Grid, I had multiple instances, when Mr. Dasgupta, will call me from one of his update meetings with the Executive Director, and present me to him like a parent beaming with pride, “Sir, this was JP’s idea.”
You cannot imagine the kind of confidence and passion that was built in me. In many senses, I became inseparable from my work, I identified myself with the work and always wanted to do better. I worked for Power Grid for eight years, seven of which I was working for Mr. Dasgupta. I guess, I received enough reinforcement of this principle, that it became a lifelong habit.
I wish that you can be one such leader, who “Gives Credit Where Credit is Due” and have a team that is willing to do whatever it takes.
Stay tuned for another lesson from Mr. Dasgupta, next week.
