What I Learned from Losing a 7 Figure Deal. And, What Millionaires Teach Us.

I?Learned More From Losing a 7 Figure Deal?Than from Winning.

More people consume content about screwing up rather than viewing your highlight reel. I've learned this over and over during the years. Last week's post about losing a sponsorship renewal resonated with our audience. Here are the main ideas.?

  • Single-Contact Trap: Relying solely on one relationship within an organization instead of building a broader network is dangerous. When my?contact left, our lack of additional?connections kept me from?sustaining the sponsorship.
  • Lack of ROI Metrics: Failing to track and demonstrate concrete value is either lazy or you know the performance?and don't want to tell the story. The new leadership wanted data-driven evidence of the sponsorship's impact, and I didn't have it.?
  • Renewal Assumption: Incorrectly assuming the sponsorship would automatically continue based on past performance...well, that's just entitled behavior.

What I'm Changing?with ISRT's Sponsorship Launch

As the partnership agent for the International SuperCross Race Team (ISRT), I'm excited to explore the process of learning about new prospective partners. Here's our partnership program:

We're using a new discussion agenda to get right to the prospect's goals. I hope sharing with you will underscore the importance of ensuring any sales presentation is about them (the prospect), not you.

What Could ISRT Do for Your Company's Business Growth?

- Brand visibility - Is there a benefit reaching the millions** of fans in the SuperCross demographic?

- VIP hospitality experiences - Will hosting customers at the nation’s top sports stadiums help close more sales?

- B2B connections and networking - Can our business network connections pay for a sponsorship investment??

Episode 113: Three things I Learned from Working w/ Millionaires.?

Most millionaires share several?traits: they're self-made, first-generation wealthy, deeply self-aware, and masters of delayed gratification. Through my career interactions with high achievers, I've distilled three core insights that consistently stand out:

  1. Self-Creation: Success isn't inherited but deliberately constructed through strategic choices, continuous learning, and relentless personal development.
  2. Long-Term Vision: These individuals prioritize future gains over immediate pleasures, investing time, resources, and energy into sustainable growth strategies.
  3. Self-Understanding: Profound self-awareness enables them to recognize strengths, address weaknesses, and make calculated decisions that compound personal and professional success.
