What I learned from giving myself grace in summer

I’m an old soul…yes, an empathetic mom of 3 under 8, a middle child, a recovering people pleaser, a perfectionist, and just your average person who lived in ‘fight or flight’ mode for the better part of my motherhood years.?
Spoiler alert: I burned out and I tried to do all the things well. And, it didn’t serve me well in the long term.?
Now that I’m on the other side of burnout and what I believe to be thriving in a more balanced view of mothering in these current times (cue: How do I make this more simple? Where is my perfectionism coming up? What can I drop? What do I need? Where can I bring compassion to myself? How can I manage my energy in this coming situation?).
It’s called front-loading self-care while tending to the myriad of other things that come into my daily life with my business, life, and those I love around me.?
So what does 1982 have to do with any of this? Because I’m on the cusp of two generations (millennials and those in their early forties), I relate to both sides in many ways. Being sandwiched in a time where I understand the woman who doesn’t know if she wants to enter motherhood?and I also get the woman who was laid off and has three or four kids and living in the gray.??
?
You see, life can be in between. It can be gray. It can be messy. And many things can be true for you at the same time.? Summer is no different.??
Somehow when the end of June rolls around, everyone gets that dopamine hit that they want to have the best summer ever and to maximize the time since you only have 18 summers with your children.? Well, if you’ve been with me long enough, you know that I shoot straight from the heart.??
Our lives don’t magically get ‘easier’ in the summer. People still have loss, burnout, health issues, marital problems, divorce, major meltdowns with their kids, and everything else.?
It couldn’t be more far from Pinterest-worthy times.??
