What I Learned from the Crisis Response Webinar with Ryan Robinett

What I Learned from the Crisis Response Webinar with Ryan Robinett

What is Crisis Response?

Crisis Response is a recurring webinar that features experienced business operators who survived crises such as the Dot-com bubble and the Great Recession. Our guests will share stories, strategies, and words of advice for what is happening right now.

This series is a response to COVID-19 and the pending recession and is organized by Abstract Collective and Newberry Consulting.

About Ryan

Ryan Robinett resides in Birmingham, AL and has built his career serving in organizations that range from global service providers to start-up companies. Ryan started at Accenture, joined CTS (a small IT professional services firm) before leaving after CTS was acquired by CGI, a global provider based in Canada. During the process of growing CTS, Ryan and the CTS team experienced various economic conditions from the perspective of a growing small/medium-sized company as well as through the perspective of the enterprise clients CTS served.

Ryan has now started his own company, Multiply, which is aimed at helping companies scale. Ryan continues to employ many of those growth strategies with Multiply and Multiply’s clients. Especially pertinent are the lessons learned along the way. Ryan and his team were employed during the ‘financial crisis’ of the late 2000’s to maintain growth in a newly harsh environment. Ryan is now applying those same experiences in the ‘Covid environment’ we face today and looks forward to discussing his approach, lessons learned, and reasons for optimism.

----------

Think Small

You cannot influence macro conditions. Ask yourself what you can accomplish today with a goal of doing one good thing a day. When you stack enough small things on each other, you make meaningful progress forward. With how quickly things are changing, do not look further out than forecasting the next 2 weeks.

A big difference between now and the Great Recession

People are much more accessible today since they are all working from home. Do not feel the need to tie all of your outreach to COVID-19 as people are inundated with these messages and are likely to be overlooked.

The difference between Personal Development and Business Development

Business development is when you are talking with a buyer with the goal of closing a deal. If they are not a buyer, treat it as a conversation where you can test your messaging, and improve at your job. No matter the conversation, treat it the same, and always strive to do your best.

Be a Problem Solver First

Good salespeople look for problems to solve and value-driven ways to serve others. Be authentic in your outreach and aware of your tone during this time. Look for problems that others are facing and position yourself in a way that shows that you can solve those problems for them.

Multiply’s Framework

  1. Put people in positions to be successful
  2. Equip people to be successful
  3. See your team achieve personal results which leads to corporate gains
