What I learned from being a CTO

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a CTO without the corporate perks? Welcome to my world, where I’ve unofficially taken on the role of Chief Technology Officer... of my own home! ??

I manage over 75 connected devices across three networks. I've created this digital circus from smart doorbells to food sensors (yes, that's a thing now). My compensation? A mix of family eye-rolls and the occasional "Thanks for fixing the Wi-Fi!" ??

This domestic tech madness isn't far from what we encounter in business. Companies juggle hundreds of SaaS apps and invest thousands per employee, yet many feel they're barely scratching the surface of what technology can truly offer regarding real productivity. We often know the tech's potential, but finding the time to learn or scrolling through endless YouTube tutorials in our already fast-paced lives feels too much.

?

So, how do we cut through this tech clutter and make it work for us?

Here's my approach:

Acknowledge: Understand your current tech landscape. It's less about adding more gadgets and more about needing a guide. In business, we need coaches or mentors—someone who can scale alongside us and help identify tasks that can be automated or supported. Acknowledging this need is the first step.

Adopt: Leverage technology in a way that truly complements your talent. The biggest hurdle I see is adoption—meeting teams where they are and making technology a "must-have" rather than just a process. Consistency here is vital.

Accelerate: It's about being strategic, not just fast. We can prepare for an AI-driven future with the right structure and support. The right blend of people technology and thoughtful automation will help you and your team scale effectively.

?

Meanwhile, I'm looking for an assistant to take over as my household's CTO. Maybe then I'll earn a "raise" from my toughest critics—my family!?

That's a valuable perspective, highlighting the importance of balancing technology with human connection to drive meaningful results.
