What I have learned after three years at Geminos Software
What I have learned after three years at Geminos Software
?
LinkedIn does a great job of reminding us of the passage of time.? I was surprised when I saw that people were congratulating me on my third anniversary of being part of the Geminos team (https://www.geminos.ai/).? After many years as an industry analyst and consultant to many software startups it was quite a change to be part of an ambitious startup.? Here are the five things that I have learned.
?
1.???? It takes a village.? Startups are hard – especially when they are focused on an emerging software market that has the potential to upend the AI market.? It requires a vision of what the end game will be -- and it takes patience.
2.???? Inclusive leadership is imperative.? Many startups that I have worked with have strong leaders who push their companies forward.? It is quite common for these leaders to focus only on themselves – their past achievements and how capable and smart they are.? In truth, good leaders understand that they are only as good as their team.? The team that a leader assembles must be included in discussions about stages of development and strategy.? The marketing leader might not understand the nuances of how a platform is developed but including that individual in discussions about software development strengthens the go to market.
3.???? Navigate the ups and downs. ??Rarely does a startup glide from concept to funding to customer success.? Building a software company is hard and requires a team that is strong enough to celebrate the successes and withstand the disappointments.
4.???? Obsessive focus on customer problems. Over my time in the software industry I have seen too many startups that focus on a hot emerging technology rather than an issue that is keeping businesses from growing.?? The successful companies are the ones that combine an emerging technology with a yet unsolved customer problem.
5.???? ?Don’t fall for silver bullets.? ?Truly revolutionary technology rarely results in an overnight success.? When things get hard, it is tempting to move from the hard stuff to the latest silver bullet.? Sometimes it is easier to attract investors if a software company migrates to the hottest technology and abandons the technology that might take more time to catch fire.?

It is no accident that I mentioned these five learnings because they are the lessons that I have learned from being part of this incredible software company called Geminos Software.? We are focused on causal AI – a platform that helps customers understand why problems are happening and what approaches could potentially transform outcomes.? When we started on this journey it became clear that this approach was resonating with our prospects and customers.? Businesses need to be able to leverage their knowledge and data to take actions to build strength and revenue for the long term.?

2 个月You see Judith I always told you social media is a great way to convey key messages! Anyway what incredible bullet points here. Especially the “no silver bullet”. I would add that experimentation with a limited set of people is best to stay agile and fast without disrupting and thrashing people. If the experiment works, take the learnings and operationalize. Thanks again amazingly wise woman!
