When you touch the body, you touch the whole person, the intellect, the spirit and the emotions. – Jane Harrington
The ancient approach to health encompasses taking care of yourself holistically and proactively. Holistic health is a lifestyle approach which covers all aspects of being -
Physical - being healthy in the body.
Mental - being healthy in the body.
Social - being in harmony with others Emotional - being emotionally independent.
Spiritual - being compassionate and grateful.
Balancing all of these aspects is integral to well-being.
How to take care of your holistic health?
Here are some tips that might help with taking care of yourselves holistically.
Lay a solid foundation for your physical & mental health by prioritizing your sleep. Eat well & exercise regularly.
Identify your:
- physical response to stress (sweaty palms, palpitations...)
- negative thought patterns (I am no good, I can't do anything well..) - emotions (anger, frustration...)
These work in a loop. Practice mindfulness when you notice any of these red flags showing up to stop the loop, preventing yourself going into a spiral.
There are many things that are out of your control, but having some structure to your day can help you keep that anxiety away.
We may have or continue to experience social distancing, but that's no reason to isolate. Maintain connections even if virtual with your loved ones.
