What Hiring Managers REALLY Want to Know

If you’ve gotten to the interview stage, chances are your resume is pretty good and showcases your experience and skills well. So why do they ask you about your skills and experience again in the interview?
Well, here's the truth - when you step into that interview room, your impressive qualifications have already spoken for you. The hiring manager is looking for much more than your experience.
So, what exactly are hiring managers looking for during the interview process?
In my opinion, there are 3 crucial factors that hiring managers are evaluating when you walk through that door, and they are:
Cultural Fit and Likeability
The first few minutes of the interview are not just mere formalities. They are a critical window for you to showcase your likeability and cultural fit with the team. Don't underestimate the power of small talk, relatability, and mirroring body language. Make a connection, share a laugh, and show genuine interest in the person across the table. This is also your chance to gauge whether this is a team you'd enjoy being a part of.
Filling the Position and Adding Value
Firms aren’t hiring for the fun of it. When you're being interviewed, the hiring manager is assessing whether you can fill the specific needs of the role and become a positive asset to the team.

How can you ensure you convey this? Study the job description beforehand and identify the technical skills and expertise required. Bring these skills to the forefront during the interview. Additionally, don't just talk - listen. If a big project is mentioned, subtly express how you can bring value to it
Relevant Work Experience
Beyond the broad strokes of your resume, hiring managers are seeking granular details of your experience that align with their specific needs. Have you worked with competitors or on similar projects?
This is your opportunity to delve into the nitty-gritty of your relevant work experience. Highlight your hands-on experience and how it directly correlates with the challenges and requirements of the role. Don't hold back - expand on the details and let your expertise shine.
In essence, the interview is your stage to bring your qualifications to life, showcase your cultural fit, highlight your value, and align your experience with the needs of the organization.?
Remember, it's not just about saying the right things but also listening, connecting, and being genuinely interested.
