What is hidden behind an Authorized Training Partner (ATP)?

William Wordsworth said: “To begin, begin” and with that simple notion I will begin this Q&A discussion about the ATP.?

First and foremost, the Project Management Institute has already highlighted the topic of the ATP Program on the official website, so I leave the reference here: Become an Authorized Training Partner .

WHO or WHAT is ATP?

An Authorized Training Partner is a PMI-approved training provider with special access to licensed content and training for instructors, recognized among PMI customers as approved training providers.

WHO can become the ATP? WHAT are the financial and legal requirements?

Only organizations that have been in business for at least three years and have also provided project management training for a minimum of three years are eligible to become PMI Authorized Training Partners. This opportunity is exclusive to organizations & business entities.

Currently, organizations must undergo a Procurement Review Process before they are eligible to submit the ATP enrollment payment. This review includes an assessment of the organization's status with Dun & Bradstreet , and/or an audit of financial statements from the last three years. If your organization is required to undergo an audit of the financial statements from the past three years, you must submit audited financial statements for each of those years.

WHAT is the difference between ATP and instructor??

The difference between being a PMI Authorized Training Partner and an ATP Instructor is as follows:

Once an organization becomes a PMI Authorized Training Partner, they must have authorized ATP Instructors who have completed the appropriate Train-The-Trainer course before they can provide examination preparation training for the Project Management Professional (PMP)?, PMI Construction Management Professional (PMI-CP)?, Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)?, and the Disciplined Agile (DA)? suite of examination preparatory workshops.

In addition, Instructors must have the agile project experience to teach PMP exam preparation courses, and this will be determined during the Train-The-Trainer process. There will be a review to ensure that the Train-The-Trainer candidate has the required PMI certifications and experience before they can be enrolled in the course.

The requirements for Instructors with proven agile project experience are as follows:

  • For PMP: Instructors must have a current PMP certification.
  • For DA: Instructors must hold at least a Disciplined Agile Senior Scrum Master (DASSM)? certification.
  • For CAPM: Instructors must hold at least a CAPM or PMP certification.

WHY to become an ATP?

As an ATP:

This allows you to deliver the content through your own training and exam preparations and provides access to over 1000 free tools and templates, webinars, and digital access to PMI Standards and Guides.
  • you have the opportunity to resell PMI products through the PMI Reseller Program . This includes offering live instructor-led training classes, providing PMI memberships and exam vouchers for eight core PMI certification exams, and granting access to online on-demand courses.?

WHAT are the requirements to build your course as ATP?

Currently, only the preparation courses for the Project Management Professional (PMP)?, PMI Construction Management Professional (PMI-CP)?, Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)?, and the Disciplined Agile (DA)? suite of examination preparatory workshops require organizations enrolled in the ATP Program to purchase and use PMI's licensed course materials. It is not required to use PMI licensed course materials for other certification examination preparation courses. Additionally, it is not required to utilize PMI's licensed course materials for general project management and professional development courses.

For other courses that do not need to use PMI's course materials, your organization may offer them as usual. However, please note that no course can be submitted for more than 59.00 PDUs.

However, for all professional development courses, it is important to note that the courses must align with the PMI Talent Triangle ?.

HOW is the course validated during the ATP? Is PMI doing an audit of a new build course by the ATP?

For PDU courses, PMI will review the course description and learning objectives. PMI may also review the organization's website and the specific course. The number of PDUs will be reviewed and assessed in comparison to the learning objectives. Occasionally, it may be necessary to discreetly take a course from a PMI Authorized Training Partner to ensure the quality and integrity of the course.

Is the company from ATP able to name any of their courses as accredited ATP?

A Credly seal is available for organizations that purchase licensed course content for the Project Management Professional (PMP)?, PMI Construction Management Professional (PMI-CP)?, Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)?, and the Disciplined Agile (DA)? suite of examination preparatory workshops. Once you complete the necessary steps and purchase the licensed course materials, you can display the appropriate Credly Seal for that specific course. Your organization is not allowed to indicate that other courses are accredited by PMI, which means that courses that use PMI's licensed course materials purchased from [email protected] can indicate an affiliation with the Project Management Institute. If a course does not use PMI's licensed course materials, it cannot indicate any affiliation with PMI. If your organization is not enrolled in the ATP Program, you cannot purchase PMI's licensed course materials.

HOW does PMI approve the skills of instructors and WHAT are the requirements for the ATP’s re-accreditation?

There is no renewal requirement for the Train-The-Trainer course unless the instructor's PMI certification expires.?

For example, a PMP credential holder who wants to become a PMI Authorized Instructor must complete the PMP Train-The-Trainer course. If the instructor allows their actual PMP credential to become suspended or expired, their authority to serve as a PMI Authorized Instructor is no longer valid. This is because instructors teaching exam preparation courses that require PMI-licensed course materials must have an active PMI credential for the same certification they are teaching. Therefore, for PMP examination preparation courses, the individual must hold a PMP credential and have completed the PMP Train-The-Trainer course.?

As long as the instructor maintains their PMI credential, they will not need to renew the Train-The-Trainer certification for that specific PMI certification.

WHAT is the limit the Authorized Training Partners must be able to provide in-person and/or virtual instructor-led courses?

While there is no specified minimum, whenever your organization offers a preparation course for the Project Management Professional (PMP)?, PMI Construction Management Professional (PMI-CP)?, Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)?, and/or the Disciplined Agile (DA)? suite of examination preparatory workshops, these courses MUST be conducted in-person or led by a virtual instructor. Recording the course is never allowed.

What should you know about the requirement that Authorized Training Partners must have a documented issue-resolution process for customers?

The document must be on the organizational letterhead for your organization.

WHAT do you receive as a Client of the ATP?

  • if you, as a Client, take certification prep for CAPM, PMP, PMI-CP, DA you obtain the next benefits:

WHAT steps need to be taken to become an ATP?

As you consider the possibility of enrolling your organization in the ATP Program, please consider the following before submitting your ATP Application:
