What is Health Performance

Health is defined as the state of physical, mental, and social wellbeing, while performance is the action or process of carrying out or accomplishing an action, task, or function. One’s personal health is their greatest asset, their brain comparable to that of a computer and their body as the machine operated by 11 complex systems. There are endless comparisons such as software and hardware or engine and car but why this matters is the mind-body relationship that unlocks the power of life’s potential and starts within.

Activity is the?foundation, and it’s easier to stay in shape as a kid, you run around, participate in sports, and your metabolism is blazing fast. There are no repercussions for eating pizza & ice cream. However, one better hope they logged in those hours at recess because your activity levels during your youth establish your body’s composition that dictates your resting metabolic rate as you age and your body begins to slow down. Not only do team sports facilitate activity, but they also establish the foundation of learning how to exercise, be a part of a team, and interact with people who are different from you.

As we age, not everyone can play sports, nor can people find the time to travel and make new friends. In addition, learning to vigorously move your body for the first time at 25 years old is not an easy task. In your adolescence, sports were nothing but recreational activity, but what we fail to realize is that the purest joy you get from competing and being a part of a team, these cherishable moments become increasingly difficult to access as we become grown-ups?

So why does that happen? Does it have to be like this? Being a part of a sports team, church, choir, etc., all create a stage for you to perform. There will be an audience, spectators will assess your performance & there will be an outcome. The benefit you have is that your goals were established. You had community leaders and coaches who instructed you and held you accountable. Most importantly, you were happy to participate. College is usually the last hoo-rah, but a fortunate few work for great organizations.

Goal-setting! do you know what drives you to wake up in the morning? What is the one thing you must get done this week? One year from now, where will you be? 10-year goals, do you have them? What you are trying to achieve will determine your daily actions, but there’s a catch? Is your mind and body in a position that will allow you to pursue these goals?

It’s one thing to know what you want to achieve, and it’s another to put the day-to-day work into maintaining a balanced lifestyle to optimize your productivity. Unfortunately, health Performance is a term that does not have much history, and I am not sure why. However, my research revealed that entrepreneurs, engineers, doctors, and high achievers worldwide have healthy habits that give them the physical energy and mental acuity to persist.

Sports allow one to be a part of a team, have an opponent, and compete. What if your profession or organization measured your physical fitness mental health condition and provided you with tools to find more balance? Imagine learning what behaviors to measure to compete against yourself as you have the metrics to track your progress. Health performance to me is using one’s health as the quintessential resource to facilitate and measure success in one’s personal & professional life.
