What have we done to our society?

This is Shankre Gowda from Nagamangala, Mandya District. Despite of owning 5 acres of land, he and his wife works as house keepers (cleaning toilets) in an apartment in Bangalore. When I asked him why he isn't working in his field, he says there is no water. He says that he is not aware of rain fed crops like Millets, which is in great demand and fetching good prices to the farmers. After he came to know about high value rain fed crops he wants to go back and start growing Millets. We will include Shankre Gowda in our "Partner with Farmer" scheme and will try to bring back dignity into his living.
It's so heart breaking to see our farmers working in such pathetic conditions. There are so many Shankre Gowda's around us, please make an effort to make them understand the importance of agriculture. We as a society should have been educated on how to live, instead the modern education is teaching us on how to make more & more money!!!

8 年I have come across many such people moving into city so that they can earn money for their livelihood. What would we eat if there were no farmers and no rains. We should all step forward and help our society realise their importance.
