What happiness at work looks like to us
This week is #InternationalWeekOfHappinessAtWork.
Today, we are proud to have created a business that makes us feel joyful, energised & inspired each morning when we sit down (or stand up) at our desks.
But we didn’t get here by accident. Stopping to reflect on the parts of work we had & hadn’t enjoyed during our decades-long careers was the first thing we did before setting up LockSmith.
Those learnings became the foundation of LockSmith, a business with people & their potential at the heart of it.
If you’re struggling with team morale in your business, here are five ‘how’ questions we asked (and continue to ask) ourselves that you might find useful:
How can we…
1.??? Tailor flexible working to our specific needs & responsibilities?
We take August off to properly recharge. Chris spends every other week with his mum, who has Alzheimer's, flexing his work around her care. Work-life balance won’t look the same in every business, but these are some of the ways we make flexibility work for us. ?
2.??? Work with the right people?
Values are the unique beliefs and attitudes that drive and motivate us. We never work with people who don’t share our values, whether it’s a potential client or a new associate.

3.??? Put the right talent in the right places?
Chris is a detail person (Alex isn’t). Alex is a qualified life coach (Chris isn’t). We allocate tasks based on what we are best at, and what energises us.
4.??? Invest in our people’s growth?
We recently hired a part-time associate and this month we put her on an email marketing course to develop that skillset. We want our people to grow with us.
5.??? Celebrate successes?
Every time we win a new pitch, we ring a bell. Every time we finish a workshop, we have a drink together and give ourselves a pat on the back (as pictured above!) Celebrating the small stuff matters.
If you want to find out more about LockSmith (and particularly if you are looking for solutions to questions 3 and 4), you can take a look at our training & coaching offering here. ?We’d love to chat.?
