This Is What Happens If We Keep Quiet!
This condominium was built 5 years ago to date beside the Ocean in a wealthy part of BC. A management had called us in to have a look to see what we could do about getting the cracks of the floor of the two floor parking fixed. In the first year that this building was built the floor started to crack so they called in the city engineering department for help. They were told to hire a company to make cuts on the floor so there was room to flex. The company who came in and did these cuts did them wrong, they hired a company which did not understand the way concrete works. The floors were poured wrong to begin with, and the city inspector passed a building which should not have been passed.
There are so many people's lives to worry about whom live in this building. While we were there we spoke to some of the people whom take care of the cleaning and maintenance and they were expressing how the floors had wows in them and the walls had some cracks. As you can see from some of the pictures above the cracks are so bad in the floors that there were cracks leading from the floor up through the walls in the building. The floors at some point had dropped 2 inches apart and this is a second level parking area which could fall at any time. We told this complex and company what was happening at their facility and they told us to just fill the cracks. We do not want to take on this project for the fact that we know this is wrong. There is a serious problem happening here which needs to be addressed and lipstick on a pig is not going work. For the past 4 years they have ignored the issue and allowed the salt and water to continue to make the issues worse till it got to this point, as well as are on their second management company whom is dealing with this problem. This is happened all over BC with all pavements and buildings each and every day and we choose to accept this and sit back and allow this to happen.
This is what happens when we stop caring. We feel so horrible for the people who live in this building it is unbelievable. I cannot believe the amount that these companies, inspectors and the city gets away with. It makes you feel like who was paid off to pass something like this. The city told these people to get this work done and then washes their hands free from problems. Everyone is so afraid to speak up when problems occur because they feel like they do not have a fighting chance or they have no time to fight the fight, when all that needs to happen in the simple fact that we need supporters whom understand that there is a problem which needs to be fixed!
