What Happens After

There’s one thing that is for certain. That once we pass away, we are no longer able to take care of the comings and goings that we put into motion during our time . That’s why, while we’re able, it’s so important to have a contingency plan so that everything is arranged for those that will take care of everything afterwards. It might not be easy to think about, but these steps will prevent confusion, chaos, and quite often, quarrels for your loved ones.

- Keep an updated will circumventing all you dealings. Address not only where your money will go, but also what will become of your house, any items you want bequeathed to anybody specific, even who will take care of your children or pets. A will is extremely important for everyone, healthy or sick, young or old.

-A Durable Power of Attorney is important so that everyone is clear who will be in charge of your estate and its dispersal. This is also important for before your passing, in case there needs to be medical decisions to be made and you’re unable to make them. It’s crucial to have your “POA” be somebody you trust wholeheartedly.

-Health directives and living wills go alongside POAs in the medical aspect. These will inform healthcare professionals of your wants during surgeries and ill times. This is where you can instill a Do Not Resuscitate directive, if you wish to do so.

-In today’s day and age, even after a person passes, their internet presence can still be running. Be sure to have the passwords to your online accounts in a safe place, whether it be for financial, business, or even social media profiles. It might be a good idea to give this to whoever you have as your POA.

It’s extremely difficult to think about such heavy and solemn things. However, it is necessary. An attorney can be a great help when dealing with some of these forms and it’s always important to make sure that your wishes are clear with your family members, even without the help of these formalities.
