What is happening with UK GDPR Reform?
In July the Government published the?Data Protection and Digital Information Bill , the next step in its much publicised plans to reform the UK Data Protection regime following Brexit.
Then we had a chance of Prime Minister and the bill was suspended.
I attended the IAPP Conference in Brussels this week and thought there might be some clarity provided by the DCMS reps.
Owen Rowland of the DCMS told the conference that the latest “consultation” on the stalled bill will begin shortly.?
If you read Michelle Donnelan’s speech you would have thought they were going back to the drawing board to showcase even more “Brexit benefits”.
No so…
Rowland confirmed the upcoming consultation will not be a full-blown public consultation.?
"It's important to clarify (the type of consultation). However, we are genuinely interested in continuing to engage with the whole range of stakeholders. Different business sectors as well as privacy and consumer groups," Rowland said. "We'll be providing details in the next couple of weeks in terms of the opportunities that we are going to particularly set up."
Above quote from the IAPP write up here:?https://iapp.org/news/a/at-dpc-2022-dcms-braces-for-fresh-look-at-proposed-data-protection-reform/ ?
I also heard Rowland say they will conduct some roundtables with industry and key stakeholders.?
If anyone on this group is invited to these tables (round or otherwise) do keep us posted. I will be considering the latest on the reforms in our #GDPR Update workshop.
