What Happened to PRETEXT & The Rise of Euphemisms

Pretext seems to be a word that's fallen into disuse - while its practice has become normalised - especially in the USA now but also in politics more generally and corporate speak.
Euphemism
Weasel-words have become the norm in corporate speak:
"We're sorry you feel that way" in place of a deserved apology
"We are working hard... to learn the lessons..." so as not to get caught again!
Isn't it time not just to dust off these words, and what they convey, and start to call out these practices, and the cynicism of those who habitually use them?
