What Happened to Evernote?

I transform digital chaos into organized, manageable systems, enabling clients to focus on what matters most
As someone who has relied on?Evernote?for years to keep my life organized, it pains me to say that the once-popular note-taking app has fallen from grace. It’s been a long time coming, but the downfall of Evernote is now undeniable. What happened to Evernote?
One of the most significant issues with Evernote is its failure to keep up with the times. While the app was once considered innovative and ahead of the curve, it has become stagnant. Users have been begging for new features and improvements, but the company has ignored their requests. Meanwhile, competitors like Notion, One Note from Microsoft, and Roam Research have emerged with fresh ideas and modern designs, leaving Evernote in the dust.
What Else?
Another factor contributing to Evernote’s decline is its pricing strategy. In recent years, the company has raised its prices multiple times, leaving many users feeling ripped off. While the app was free for basic use, it now requires a paid subscription for some of its most basic features. This has turned off many users who feel that plenty of other note-taking apps offer similar features for free.
These issues have led to a mass exodus of users from Evernote. Many have turned to other apps, while others have returned to using pen and paper. While Evernote still has a loyal following, it’s hard to deny that the app’s best days are probably behind it. Factor in the fact that the company that purchased Evernote moved all operations to Europe, and users’ disconnected feeling has only grown.

What can Evernote do to turn things around?
First and foremost, the company needs to listen to its users. It’s clear that there are certain features that users want and need, and it’s time for Evernote to start delivering on those requests. AI is huge these days, and Evernote’s AI offering is limited to only one function, which is currently in beta. Competitors like Notion have a complete AI suite of functions.
But most importantly…
Evernote needs to focus. The company must decide what it wants to be and stick to that vision. It must be the best damn note-taking app out there if it wants to be a note-taking app. It must be the best damn task management app out there if it wants to be a task management app. Trying to do everything needs to be fixed. Additionally, the company needs to re-evaluate its pricing strategy and ensure it’s fair for all users.
The downfall of Evernote is a sad but inevitable reality. While the app was once at the top of its game, it has since fallen behind its competitors and lost its way. But all hope is not lost. If Evernote can refocus and start listening to its users, it could make a comeback. Only time will tell if the company is up to the challenge. I’m still an Evernote Expert, but focus mostly on Notion now. I’d love to chat with you about Notion.?Reach out on my contact page if you’d like to learn more.

4 个月I was on the free version for years but was getting sick of the constant requests to upgrade. I'd reached my limit so I couldn't create new notes. So I copied/migrated all my notes to Google Keep. I'm glad I did as now I can't access my Evernote notes at all. It just goes to a limit reached page.

9 个月Watch out, Evernote will sign you up, start charging your bank account and then disappear and will never respond and I can't login. Recovery emails never received. This seems like a scam. I won't go quietly.

10 个月I just got an email that my annual renewal cost was going up to $129.99 from last year's $49.99 (which was up $10 from $39.99 in 2022, up from $34.99 in 2021). That's a 260% increase from last year. (370% since 2021) For no improvements worth noting. I loved Evernote since I started using it in 2008. I even have a cool elephant logo t-shirt. But guess what I'm about to do?

1 年I was a loyal and paying customer of Evernote for a long time. There were always annoyances particularly with their desperate chasing of the Enterprise customers to the detriment of average users. I also could not hack in the end being harassed every day to upgrade to a higher-tier. WTF. I will not pay for a product that continues to advertise at me. This is part of the reason why I paid in the first place. Back in the day they used to allow multiple logins under a single account, so I had a login for work and a login for private life, which worked great. They clamped down on that and I had to move onto the free tier for my work login, or pay for two accounts. I'm on notion now, but the editor is utter rubbish compared to the Evernote one -- the one thing they did that really helped me.

1 年I use the free version of Evernote for about 7 years now.? Recently Evernote asks free user EVERY SINGLE TIME that I login if I want to upgrade.? I had to click twice to continue with the free plan. Now they ask and need confirmation so basically you have to click 4 times on the dialog box every single time you open the app. This is becoming a MAJOR turn off for me. I'm slowly transitioning to OneNote. It's been harassing me everyday many times in a day.? I have enough of it. The reason I still open it is I still have some information that I need access to.? Good bye and good luck Evernote.??
