Welcome back to another edition of our weekly review, where I provide you with a detailed recap of the previous week and share the lessons I have learned. For a TL;DR (too long, didn't read) version, please scroll to the bottom. Feel free to comment and share this with your network, as it may be helpful to others.
If you're new here, I'm Charles, a 28-year-old marketing professional who recently left his secure corporate job to pursue self-employment. My goal is to make marketing fun and accessible for everyone. In case you missed it, you can read my previous article about what happened in 9/52.(https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/what-happened-952-charles-malapitan--4o9ge/?trackingId=QpnuvouBRN8UVNqW0rRgpw%3D%3D ). Enjoy!
I think of this week's edition, we are going to run through things pretty quickly as it was a blur and the highlights and lowlights are what we come here for.
Here we go! There she is, the long awaited logo for Made Marketing Easy, ironically, it was not so easy to come up with this design and I can say I'm pretty chuffed about this logo. This may change in the future, much like our business it may adapt to be a different version, but this is the start of something wonderful.
Please let me know what you think in the comments, love it, hate it or rate it out of 13. I'd love to hear what you think.
The best part about being a business owner is the day-to-day conversations and collaborations you can have with different people. This week, I spent about 3 hours on the phone with Archie and Lewis to discuss business opportunities and a general life updates. The main theme of the conversation was very positive and it really highlighted the fact in business, you need to instill trust with everyone you are dealing with, otherwise you are going to make people feel like the Eduardo Saverin to your Mark Zuckerberg. Don't get social networked!
I have used notion in the past as a notetaking application, but I am now a big-time convert to the other templates and business organisational facilities that Notion has. Moving forward, I will be using Notion on a daily, to ensure all of my notes, ideas and tasks are on there. If you have any suggestions on using Notion, please let me know! I am such a newbie, it's very bare right now. Please send help!!
Coming out of the conversation with Archie, the idea of having a Made Marketing Easy group on LinkedIn, where a community could share top tips of many aspects of marketing, as safe space for all backgrounds. Whether you are trying to get into the industry, or a seasoned veteran looking for fresh inspirations. This group is where it will all be posted! So scan away and get your place today! Or else, you might miss it, you are a person of free will, can't really force you... yet.
So, quick update on my personal health, as some of you know, I am very large Pacific Islander and this means I suffer from the classic disposition of GOUT! I know! Crazy! It's not just for high-class old men, its for late 20's Filipinos! So I have been getting consulation on this issue for years now and they have put me on a new type of medication, which I hope will help! But here's to gout and shoutout to not being able to walk for a couple of days!
Being self-employed means being able to do laundry at 11:30AM and not having to panic about a meeting or call. This is quite liberating as I now feel so much more effiecient and I hope my contribution to the housework will help eleviate pressure for my partner! Allowing us to have more time to make memories along the way. As really, this is the point of life, don't get caught up in the salary-trap. This really resonates with me as I am thankful for the sacrifices my parents have made to allow me to get me to where I am, but I understand that my circumstances are completely different to them and I know that one day I will give back what they deserve. Enjoy the journey and the destination wont seem so far away.

I have started to realise, as a marketer; it might just be me (who knows?!), i am so focused on the minute by minute ROI. I feel like I am still recovering from the corporate life of having to justify each action for a measurable return, but most of the time, this is an exercise practicing the acceptance of negative outcomes and makes us susceptible to changes, especially in consistency. Let me expand on this, as marketers we often find ourselves blaming algorithms or time of day or lack of online activities to justify why the post flopped and once a couple of our posts starts flopping we start to talk ourselves out of being consistent with it. Especially, if the line management starts asking "is there a point to doing this", we are then converted by logic, but in marketing we can't always trust logic in how we measure why a post or a trend has gone viral. In short, stop asking yourself, how you can make the content better; as long as it provides value, work on the notion of how to make the content more consistent.
For those rugby fans out there -- I know, you're thinking, "Jeez, this guys plays rugby and badminton", let me reassure you, I play both sports and other sports I do play (big flex, I know!) I play them very poorly!
In the midst of the Six Nations tournament, I had the pleasure of attending the England vs Ireland match, at the home of Rugby, Twickenham, with a couple of my closest buds! As you can see the scores favoured the English and the rest of the weekend was spent in London, explore the tourism spots. I had the brilliant idea of going on an open top-deck bus tour, on a very rainy Sunday, without waterproof clothes!
Fun-fact I didn't know, in London Sports Directs moonlights as LillyWhites! I found this out, trying to purchase a new DRY hoodie and t-shirt. So that was my weekend.
FYI, Marcus Smith who scored the winning drop-goal to let England win, is Filipino. But he doesn't have gout... what a loser.
This is your weekly message to tell you, you should believe in yourself and the rest will fall into place.
Thank you for your time, and I hope you've enjoyed joining me on this adventure so far!
TL;DR of 10/52 - This week was a mix of cool and hectic. I finally landed on a logo for Made Marketing Easy, had some deep talks about trust in business, got hooked on Notion, and thought about kicking off a LinkedIn group for marketing insights. On a personal note, dealing with gout, enjoying the perks of working whenever, and stressing the need for consistency in our work. Also, survived a rainy rugby match with friends. Remember, just keep pushing forward. Catch ya later!
