News broke out that Elon Musk, the highly acclaimed CEO of Tesla and the richest man on earth had acquired one of the most popular social media platforms, Twitter. In a dramatic twist of events from both parties, the world was informed that Mr Musk had reportedly purchased Twitter for a whopping 44 billion US dollars (RM 191.51 billion) - after much speculation since learning that Musk was Twitter’s single largest shareholder.?

Now that the richest man on earth has inked his signature on the dotted lines, Twitter has officially become the sole property of Elon Musk. This begs the following question: where does it bring the blue bird app next under his close watch??

Giving Twitter Fans More Freedom Than Ever Before? Maybe?

Although no word has been made official yet, reports have revealed that Elon Musk is looking to give more freedom to the people via Twitter. As an avid Twitter user himself, Mr Musk is already planting seeds of having lesser restrictions on the blue app and want to provide more leniency when it comes to banning people in regards to the social platform’s various policies.?

Since Twitter is a fan favorite of Elon Musk, we assume that he could be looking at ways to bring new improvements to the platform itself. When Twitter first came into existence, users have been plagued with a few mundane experiences such as battling over word limit restrictions, inabilities to edit a Tweet after it has been published, among many others. However, with Twitter going under the full control of Elon Musk, things could very well change.?

Whether it would change for the better or worse remains to be seen but for what it is known, Elon Musk is said to be pushing for a lot more freedom when utilizing Tweets. Under his supervision, the Tesla owned public figure has made it publicly known that he intends to bring the Edit button to fruition. A feature highly anticipated by users all over the world when Twitter first started becoming the global name that it is today.?

Welcoming The Edit Feature While Anticipating The “Unmention” Feature

First discovered by reverse engineer, Jane Manchun Wong, she says that the Edit feature on Twitter is “immutable”, meaning that edited tweets will still be visible under the previously published Tweet before changes were made. How users will receive this update is not known but presumably, it would still be a welcomed feature considering it is something users have always wanted to see for some time now.?

As for the “Unmention” feature, this is a new addition that Twitter is currently working on to allow its users to remove their tagged names on a specific Tweet. This is a feature that other social media platforms have not highlighted, which makes Twitter the first platform to take the lead. Possibly introducing this feature to eliminate unwanted mentions coming from unexpected visitors, this could be yet another welcoming feature for Twitter users.?

While both features do not have an exact arrival date in Malaysia, the additions here are certainly something that would bring Elon Musk’s aspirations closer to becoming reality. It is no secret that Mr Musk has been very vocal about bringing freedom of speech. However, one would have to wonder if this freedom will be abruptly abused by extremists, especially at a time when the world is faced with an ongoing pandemic and other economic rifts.?
