This is what a "hand up" looks like
So when you donate to or raise funds for Canberra Vinnies CEO sleepout, where does the money go? People who supported the cause by donating or participating last year helped to raise $425,000 for Vinnies Canberra/Goulburn. With that money provided a hand up to people in need in the following ways:
- Provided emergency assistance and home visits to over 17,365 calls for support. In addition to material support such as food, clothing and financial help, our members provided comfort, hope, friendship and support to break through the barriers of loneliness and isolation that many people living on the fringe of society suffer.
- Responded to 12,258 instances of support through Night Patrol services, whose enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers from within the community provide a mobile outreach offering refreshments, information, referral, and friendly faces to people on the streets of Canberra 364 nights per year.
- Delivered educational opportunities for those who have suffered a setback or disadvantage via our Clemente program. This program is offered in partnership with the Australian Catholic University (ACU). Benefits include increased self-esteem, improved social connections, more structured lives and an opportunity to exercise one’s intellect and imagination.
- Supplied respite, support and recreational opportunities for 125 young carers in the 9-17 age group through bi-annual camps and monthly weekend activities via the Society’s St Nick’s young carers program.
Donations stay in our backyard and will allow Vinnies to continue and expand these critical services. And its not too late to register...
