What is Greenhushing?
Purpose Conference
World-class immersive events for the purpose-driven business community.
An interesting phenomenon has emerged in recent years.?
Alongside the growing amount of concern about our environment has come a growing number of ‘green’ initiatives and claims by businesses. Following that, has come the concern about this veering into greenwashing. And in the wake of fear of greenwashing, many companies have decided not to disclose anything about their sustainability efforts.
At a time when one of the biggest barriers to making meaningful progress is the accuracy and transparency of ESG and climate data, the idea of greenhushing is unsettling.?
At Purpose Conference 2023 we’ll be exploring how we can foster openness, transparency and honesty about where we're at, so we can make progress. While of course being mindful that we don't want to be greenwashing either, we want to encourage a 'progress is better than perfection' mindset and support people and organisations who are not perfect yet (none of us are - we are all part of this system), but are working hard to turn the tide.?
Yes, we want to hold a really high level of ambition for what a responsible, ethical and sustainable company looks like, but the last thing we want is people retreating from this challenge out of fear of being exorcised.
So come one, come all, bring your dirty laundry, and your skeletons, and let us work on it together in a safe space for imperfection and work in progress.?
Pop Quiz
On our race to get to net zero emissions and to reach ‘nature positive’, how do we know we’re on the right path?
a) What is climate change?
b) Hopes and prayers
c) Being unafraid to acknowledge fears, challenges and mistakes
d) Accurate and transparent reporting and goal setting ?
If you answered a) or b), you’re not alone in feeling like you just want this problem to go away. The harder, but wiser response, is c) and d).?
A principle of ours at Purpose is doing hard stuff, with other humans.? Because this stuff is tough, but it’s better together.
Early bird tickets are on sale now. It’s the final weeks to save $300 on full priced tickets.?

Rachel Castelino - Founder, Blume?
Rachel founded Blume, a prebiotic tonic beverage company, in 2022 after struggling with her own health issues and noticing a lack of better-for-you beverage options that appealed to younger and mainstream consumers.
Rachel's experience working in Washington, D.C. at a think tank and a public affairs firm gave her the pragmatic insight that nudging people to make healthier choices starts with being realistic, listening to their needs, and suggesting better alternatives rather than expecting consumers to change their behaviour entirely with finger-wagging.
