'What Got You Here Won't Get You There'
Vasundhara Jakka's 'Read to Lead' Book Club in Mumbai invited me as guest speaker and I spoke on Marshall Goldsmith's, 'What Got You Here Won't Get You There'.
In 2010 a fellow passenger on a Mumbai Chennai flight was reading this book. When he set it down the intriguing cover caught my eye. We got chatting and I discovered nugget after nugget from the illustrous Dr. N. Ramachandran. He told me the most interesting stories about coming back to India from the US, after spending time as a doctor in the ICU. Dr. Ram saw that ICU patients and relatives developed sleep disorders after long stays in the ICU. He returned to India with 7 other doctor friends, and starting his early practice in sleep disorders. He also wrote books in Tamil for lay people. One day he received a call from the office of the then President, Dr. A. P. J Abdul Kalam. Impressed with Dr. Ram's writings, Dr. Kalam invited him to meet with him.
While we were ready to disembark, Dr. Ram wrote a personal message and handed me his copy. The book was an initial trigger to my journey as leadership coach.
In this book, Marshall Goldsmith, the pioneer with the 360-degree feedback talks about 20 bad habits that fall in a 2X2 matrix, information/ communication and too much/ too little.
A video review of the book to serve as a quick glimpse into the book.

The two mind maps summarise the key takeaways from the book:
Amongst the seven steps on improving, is the brilliant 'Feedforward' - questions on 'what can I do to improve'. All in all a 'must read and practice' book.
