What About Good News?
Over the past few weeks, there have been small instances of personal successes. Like little tufts of plants that push defiantly through arid ground, my personal high points have shone bright against the darkness of these days. However, until now I have not shared them with others. Why, even this post has been written, rewritten and shelved a few times as it felt wrong to be remarking upon such insignificant personal joys when so many of us are suffering.
When I eventually shared the trickle of good news with some of my friends, they were unanimous in their celebration. I confided in them my trepidations and apologised profusely if I came across as being insensitive. In the end, they pooh-poohed my fears and reassured me that it is these small beacons of happiness that sustain us in trying times
So here it is. My utterly unremarkable list of personal highs over the past few weeks - a distinction for my term submission in my Master's degree, film festival selections for two of short films, being commissioned to produce an online theatre show, being shortlisted for a script I submitted to a well-known the theatre competition, excellent feedback for an audio piece I produced are but some of them.
Now more than ever, I am careful about shouting from roof tops about personal triumphs. But I recognise the importance of finding sporadic glimmers of hope and holding on to them. So if not rousing announcements, there will be quiet whispers in friendly ears whenever there is good news to share. So tell me, what has worked for you over these past few months? I'm all ears.

4 年I don't think you should be shy about celebrating achievements right now Abhi Arumbakkam. Like Jane Brocklebank - I think there is so much depressing news and negativity right now that any positive news should be hugely celebrated! Over the past few months for me, it's been about just going with whatever gets you through - and that's different for everyone. It's been crazy times, there are no precedents, so as far as I'm concerned - all bets are off! Well done on all of those achievements - each one is fantastic

4 年I like reading good news Abhi - there is so much negativity around, it needs balancing with positivity. For what it's worth, you're achievements are not unremarkable either! You should be proud, well done.
I absolutely love reading your good news - you are a bundle of light, positive energy, unrelenting wisdom, humour and a huge dose sheer “real-ness”. Keep telling us your stories, I am far richer for hearing them.
