What good the desert sand?

What good the desert sand?

What good was this landscape of desert sand; it just sifted through the fingers of the human hand. Offering nothing of value yet smooth and fine; until man realised that they were the sands of time.

Yes, the hourglass holding measured millions of grains; watch upended it takes exactly an hour and drains. Suddenly a grain had a role to play; to accurately measure a part of the day.

If man's ingenuity had stretched that far; he could stretch it further and reach for a star? Was it the desert sands under the blazing sun; that created a mirage - a vision of what could be done?

The mirage, nature's way of offering inspiration; to be transformed into reality by man's imagination. Behold now a shimmering kingdom, a pearl so flawless; built upon granules always thought to be worthless.

Yesterday, I was reminded of these words written for an art piece titled 'Shimmering Pearl' by Kayfactor? [ revolution ] to commemorate Dubai and Expo2020.

The objectives of the art piece were to highlight the heritage of pearl hunting in Dubai; be fabricated entirely from locally collected waste plastic in Dubai; and surface finished to shimmer and resemble the modern Dubai skyline.

'Shimmering Pearl' plays a constant reminder of the respect for our leaders of the United Arab Emirates who have created a kingdom on granules thought to be worthless, and my own personal admiration of the citizens and residents who take inspiration from a vision of what can be done.

We are all grains of sand. Some withered some beaten but together we form a vast ocean of beauty that is photographed, written about and marveled. We should never forget that we are the grains of sand that form the beauty of the land
